Quoting courtship

Philippines certainly, because they all speak english at businesses, and the people in rural communities that you want to see all love foreigners very much. Get away from the cities, and the provinces are romantic and nice. Philippines is 7100 islands of beautiful flowers, girls, each sweeter than honey. Research also the many festivals, where the costumes are beautiful. My fiance just visited a volcano. Consider also the hundreds of historic churches, maintained from spanish occupation, great architecture to see. But avoid the cities when u can. Much pollution, begging in places, danger at night - but is it any better in major usa cities? At least in the philippines the banks outgun the robbers. Welcome to the wild wild west

Seriously 7100 islands, Indonesia has over 17,505 islands, from Sabang to Merauke. Java itself has more Culture than Philiphines.

I have been to both countries and I will still vote Philippines. Why?

1.) The first impression in any country will be at the airport. If your in a country that almost cannot understand & speak English, getting to your destination from the airport using public transport is a pain in the "___". It took me a lot of time sign language, showing them Google maps and lot of times these taxis will take advantage of you not able to understand them. They will charge you a lot. Many advised to use the Blue Cab because they are tourist friendly and honest.
2.) At the fast food, good luck to you when you order your food and drinks. All you do is point at pictures w/o knowing that the cashier is telling you that there are Combo Meals available w/c are cheaper than ala carte orders.
3.) When you watch American movies, they have sub titles in Bahasa. Funny thing w/ this setup, is you have already laugh at the humor and it would take a while for them to catch up and laugh. He he. Ending, your laughing ahead of them w/c make you look crazy.
4.) Public transport is hard in Indonesia. You will notice that almost all of them have invested a motorcycle as a form of transport.
5.) For scenery - I would not discount Indonesia. They have good tourist spots. They managed to convert an entire mountain into a drive in zoo Safari. (Taman Mini) Nice.
Scenery is also a preference of the tourist.
6.) As for people, Indonesians are mostly nice and shy. Problem is if they knew that you cannot speak Bahasa, they tend to avoid you maybe because they intimidated. Happened to me when I was buying street foods. Vendors tend to go away and avoid me simply because they cannot speak English.
7.) As for food, most Indo food are on the hot spicy side. Filipino foods are on the sweet, grilled, fried side. This one depends on your preference.
8.) Girls - I would vote for Filipina girls as Indo Girls are almost on the conservative side. They swim with their head covered.
9.) Money/Expenses - cheap on both countries. Your 100$ will last you a month of food.

The original post was four years ago and nine of the subsequent ten replies were also four years ago with the most recent reply a year ago - until the one above. The OP was going that November so I think the trip has been done and dusted ages ago. I think you're flogging a dead horse on this one!

Yes I agree with you. But actually this is for the benefit of those new readers (like myself) who stumble upon this post. At least it is now up to date for a lot of my trips were recent also. :)

If I were you, I would choose Philippines because people there speak English, easy to communicate and religious it not a matter.. Hope my ideas might help.
