This is all very new to me. My husband and I can't stand the idea of being stuck in another spanish resort holiday. We want to see more of the world, to experience new cultures. This would be my firt time out of Europe. We have a toddler and are not sure if this kind of holiday would be appropriate. We are also on a very tight budget. What I am asking is, where would be the best place to start exploring Asia for absolute begginers, taking into consideration our situation?

I vote for Thailand as well. There are so many others like you bumping around Thailand that you can hardly go wrong. Just chat with fellow visitors about what they liked/disliked, where they stayed, ate, etc. Plenty of TP members have extensive knowledge on Thailand that help is just a few mouse clicks away.

Let us know how long you have for your holiday and appox. daily budget and members can make suggestions on what the see, do. Good luck with your planning.

I also suggest Thailand (I would say Vietnam if you were childless). For a second trip, I suggest the 3 countries of Indochina (by then you will know the ropes a little better, and the child will be a little older). Prices in Thailand are not as cheap as Indochina, but coming from the UK, you will think you're in heaven!

Enjoy (I don't think I could take that Spanish resort either!)

I suggest Air Asia X flights from London Stansted via Kuala Lumpur - about the best deal around

Ok how much money would you say I would need for Veitnam and how long would be best 10 days or more? Would have to leave the little one with his Gandparents for the first trip so we can't take the mickey with how long we would be away.

I lived in Thailand and it is a perfect family destination, maybe somewhere like Phuket or Ko Samui would be perfect!
