Here, all sorts of things are of equal popularity more or less in both winter and summer.
Football is very important (both male and female), and probably the biggest summer sport, but not hugely more than many other things. Athletics is big at the moment, handball, tennis and golf are all very important, and swimming and horsey things also there amongst others. Table tennis is quite big too (Jan Ove Walder is officially the most recognisable Western sports person in the world in terms of number of people who recognise him, although Beckham is catching up).

In winter, skiing, especially Cross Country is very definitely king, and a very serious business, although ice hockey also big, especially at the moment as all the NHL stars are back home due to the strike!
And then you've got local sports like Bandy and Inner bandy...

Australians - mainly the melbournians follow their own made up game of AFL (australian football league, known to many as footy). Not sure if people that havent been to australia have heard of it so basically its a sport where a bunch of fit males, generally aged 18 - 25 run around a football field wearing short shorts, kicking and handballing an odd shaped ball. Please feel free to ammend or add to my description.

China's national sport is table tennis / ping pong

Wow, not a single US poster here...in the US, of course, Football (American Football)...football is played in the US while soccer is played on the rest of the world...

Some would say baseball or basketball are more popular so take your pick, it is any of the three.
