My boyfriend and I are planning a RTW trip at the end of the year and want to start in West Coast America in early October for about 4 weeks.
We will most likely start in San Fran and work our way down to L.A. and the region near there. We want to go to Yosemite NP and Las Vegas too at some point.
We need to still work out the exact stops but I wanted to get people's opinions on nice hostels (or ones to avoid!) if you've done this route before.
Any suggestions welcome please! Also any tips on doing a trip like this on a budget i.e. renting a car vs Greyhound or any nice cheap restaurants in LA or San Fran etc would be brilliant!
thanks in advance,
My Friend Jane stayed here for almost a week. She enjoyed it and went back there after visiting me in Vegas.
Send me a PM if you want help with Las Vegas.
There is a funny list of Hollywood hostels here for LA (don't worry, some of them have private rooms if you are with your boyfriend!) and they look quite fun with swimming pools and Tiki gardens!
The Backpackers Paradise hostel in LA has nice private rooms. They do free (although basic) dinner each night or you can dine at the restaurant and they give you coupons for free glasses of wine at the on site bar. They also have free drop offs to a trolley that will take you down to the beach which is quite a nice little added extra
On the subject of cafes in the USA, I thought this site might be useful to foreign travelers - Roadfood.com (good regional food)
