2010 World Airline Awards are announced

Some 40 different airlines from around the world assembled to receive their accolades, which were handed out by Mr Edward Plaisted, Chairman of Skytrax. The award winners are selected by the airline industry's most important audience, it's customers. More than 17.9 million air travellers from over 100 different nationalities took part in the 10 month survey, between July 2009 and April 2010. The awards are respected and recognised around the world for being the only truly global, independent passenger survey of airline standards.

Commenting on the prestigious Airline of the Year 2010 award received by Asiana Airlines, Mr Plaisted said: "this is a fantastic achievement for Asiana Airlines to be named winner of this top Airline of the Year Award, and Asiana Airlines are clearly meeting and exceeding their customer's expectations. This award represents a true recognition of the front-line product and service that Asiana Airlines is delivering to it's customers, and the award slogan of 'The Passenger's Choice' underlines the fact that Asiana Airlines are succeeding in satisfying the hardest critics - their users. When evaluating the survey results, the real strength that was shining through for Asiana Airlines is their front-line staff. Across both the ground services environment at their home base at Incheon International Airport, and the exceptionally high quality and consistent cabin staff service, Asiana Airlines is setting a new world order when looking at the best airlines across the globe. They have been close to the top positions in previous year awards, and I am delighted to now see Asiana Airlines taking the highest accolade in being named Airline of the Year for 2010."

Asiana Airlines President and CEO, Mr Young-Doo Yoon, said : "We would like to express our most heartfelt appreciation to our customers who voted us for Skytrax 2010 Airline of the Year Award. Asiana Airlines is extremely honored to be recognized as the world’s top airline by our customers and to be awarded our industry’s highly esteemed accolade from Skytrax. To be the winner of the Skytrax 2010 Airline of the Year Award is even more special and holds greater meaning as it is 'The Passenger's Choice', the award that was truly and purely selected by our dear customers through Skytrax global, independent passenger survey renowned for its transparency. Asiana has been committed to realize our company vision to achieve 'Customer Satisfaction' by providing the best in terms of safety and service since its establishment in 1988. Asiana will continue to provide the world’s best quality and differentiated service to our customers to remain truly worthy as a Skytrax Airline of the Year and also as a Skytrax 5-Star Airline. It is very exciting that Asiana Airlines service has set an excellent example in the airline industry. Although we are extremely proud to be chosen by Skytrax 2010 Airline of the Year Award, Asiana Airlines will use this opportunity as further motivation to never cease in its continual improvement and development efforts while devoting ourselves to always go beyond satisfying each and every valuable customer."

Seems a few of them got no stars - but then again, is it updated at all? Some with no stars have down down the plug-hole anyway.
Would be interesting to see how they came to the ratings.
