I was caught shoplifting and an undercover LP caught me as I walked out the door and took me into the back room. There, they proceeded to take my information down, read my rights and waited for the police to come. When the police came, they decided not to press any charges, and just gave me a lecture and a 70$ ticket for trespassing (provincial offence like a speeding ticket) which I paid online a few days later.
Now I am terrified. I know I do not have a criminal record because I was never charged or convicted. But WILL I BE ABLE TO TRAVEL TO THE US OR HAVE ANY ISSUES TRAVELLING??? I WAS NEVER CHARGED, NO FINGERPRINTS, DIDN'T GO TO COURT. JUST HANDED A TRESPASSING TICKET AND THEY LET ME GO BUT WROTE SOME OF MY INFO DOWN. I'm reading mixed answers online about whether or not I am free to travel to the US and other countries. SOme say I am okay but I'm getting some that are saying no...anyone know?
If you were just given a ticket, then it isn't even something you are required to mention in your visa application.
Here's a link to a thread that discusses what does keep someone from being allowed to travel to the US:
This question has been asked & answered many times on TP. The US uses a self reporting system. You tell them your criminal record. You are not in the system. You have nothing to report. Fill out the forms as if this incident never happened. Relax and enjoy your visit to the US.
You've as much possibility - at the USA border, of having a bad or good time whether you have a record or not.
Fill in the form/s (if you get it/them), be honest and you'll get in. There wont be a problem - 100%.
As I already said, if you're as clean as a new shiny coin, you can still get hassled on entry. They have very moody guards and immigration officers there - as do many countries.
I've had a breeze getting through at JFK and total unwarranted garbage in Miami. Its all chance.
At this point you dont have a record, you basically got off with an expensive warning,
,i'd not complicate things by mentioning the incident.
