Hey friends,

I and my friends are going to safari either in masai mara or serengeti..Although tastes and preferences differ, I would still like to know which is your favorite.

I have been to the Mara several times and although I love the place, and I hate to say this, I've lost most of my respect for the Game Drivers who work the park. They have no guilt when it comes to leaving the game roads and following hunting cheetah or lions on a kill across the grasslands, which is totally against the rules. They pay a small bribe/fine if they are caught but get great big tips from their clients for that one perfect photo - and forget the consequences for the animals.

I don't know what they are like in the Serengeti but I can only hope they are better and possess a little more conscience.

Hope this helps somehow.

hi Oya,
Both parks are exiting and rich in wildlife. i would advise you try masai mara.have been there severally and everytime you go, you get t see new things!
Just make sure you book with the right people and book in advance as thats high season in kenya due t the migration and accommodation can be tricky!
all the best.Karibu kenya.:)

Hi Oya :)

My take is both game reserves are the best for game viewing, just make sure you have booked with a good tour guide otherwise you will suffer the fate of Zaksame at the Mara..

I was in the Mara recently my tour operator was excellent with the price and got my values worth my driver / guide was superb a gentleman and knew just where to go to see all the animals even saw the wildebeest but did not get to see them cross the river.

Jambo :)

Thanks for your answers. @ mrsmusyk and slaket, can you suggest me a tour guide? I would like to contact the one you have experienced.
did you stay in tent or lodge? I wonder how comfortable it is to stay in tent, it sounds better though.
I'd appreciate if you can also share your opinion about accomodation choice.

Asante sana!!

All the best

Jambo Oya!:)
Karibu sana (I'm learning the language):) I am, actually, still in Kenya, hoping to travel to Tsavo with my girlfriend. We stayed in a tented camp that the tour operator recommended. It was great!!:) Make sure you contact whoever you pick soon to avoid frustrations as it is high season and most places are rapidly filling up.
All the best my friend!:)

[ Edit: removed names of tour operator and accommodation: not sure about promo here ]

well i'll throw a pitch in here for the serengeti...which i found to be pretty amazing. i haven't been to masai mara but my friends that have gone say that as far as scenery/animals go, there's very little difference. they are basically the same animals that cross the invisible country border line back and forth every year during the migration. i would check on pricing for both parks as serengeti tends to be a little less expensive depending on what type of trip you're looking for...something to do with taxes, I believe, but stand to be corrected. as for driving all over the grounds...well, they were allowed to drive on one side of the road on the way into the park, but not the other...which is encompassed in the park. once we officially entered, they never strayed off the road. if you want any recommendations as to guides/companies, etc., feel free to shoot me a pm and I can send you a list of the ones that i know of. good luck with your planning!
