Hi All,

After some consideration (and something I've been meaning to do for a while now), I've started utilising our new member rank (which you can't see ;)) to calculate users' Titles. Amongst other things, it takes into consideration featured photos, what forum you've posted in and votes on your posts. By doing this, there will always be a limited amount of Travel Gurus and Respected Members and it will continually become a harder goal to achieve, so no resting on your laurels anymore. Apologies to those who have lost their prized Guru status. I think it will help make it an increasinly meaningful title!

Oh, and I've also used it to reward users with extra photo space; Full Members get 1MB, Respected Members get 2MB and Travel Gurus get 5MB of space.

Cheers, Peter

I always did feel a bit guilty about being a "Travel Guru" since I've hardly been anywhere!

Peter,

My only comment is that when you rate a post for usefullness, you can't see the aggregated results of the ratings for a particular post.... or am I not looking hard enough ?

You're not alone, Lil. Me too!

I was a travel guru before I was grabbed by Peter to become a moderator a few months back. I wonder if I'd still be one or demoted with the new ranking system had I not became a moderator.

BTW, how much space does a moderator get for the photo album? No limit?

Cheers,
Hien

So right now I am a Travel Guru (damn straight I am) which means I have 5Mb of photo storage. If using your top secret formula I get demoted down to a Respected Member and I have over 2Mb of photos uploaded, what happens to my extra photos?

James, I haven't added a vote display for entries yet - not sure whether it would help matters or not. Probably would be an incentive to vote more though I guess.

Greg, currently if you were to lose the 'Guru' status, your limit would be cut back to 2MB. Your photos would stay though, you just wouldn't be able to upload any new ones :) That said, I think I'll try and tweak that system somewhat, because if you've managed to get to Guru status once, it's enough reason to allow the 5MB limit permanently.

Hien, max is 5MB for Moderators and Admin as well at the moment - it should show your limit in a box on the left of your gallery.

Cheers,
Peter

Meaning you were bored and trying to avoid getting involved in all the clearing up after Xmas...?

It makes allot of sense though, especially as the site grows and more and more people had hit the previous mark of, urm, 100?

NOTE TO SELF. Must use the photo space on here as i've yet to remember to do it when i've been anywhere near my photo archives.

erm, yeah kind of - although it was more like; I couldn't be bothered going to sleep, so decided to stay up and do something TP related. It only took till 2 in the morning. :)

I love this site, and spend most of my time scouring through the pages for something to add that is useful for someone or asking questions for myself and my beloved south america trip that i keep bumming on about to everyone!
Just wondering what are the amount of posts to get to each position?? Is over 100 respected, 200 guru??
I do try to limit sending useless posts just to boost my post rating as that cheating!!

I think it was 100 posts to be a "travel guru", but now I think they take the content of some of the posts into account.
