I am going back to Thailand in October for a month. I have the first part of my trip pretty much dialed in starting with a few days in Bangkok then going down to Koh Samui and then of course Koh Phangan. I will be leaving Phangan at the end of October and from there I would like to to head east. This is where I need help, I have figured Koh Chang is a must and of course Pattaya. I would like some help in finding the "not so touristy areas before heading back to bangkok. If any of you know of any good places to visit along the coast please feel free to let me know. I am also not interested in all that go go bar hoopla so if your ideas are about that just keep them to yourselves.
There are several islands offshore of Koh Chang that might interest you. This guy has a great website for KC. Below Pattaya is Rayong. You might want to explore this area and head over to Koh Samet for a few days.
Good luck with your planning.
Do you think I am making a better decision staying away from Phuket and the west? I just figure I kinda want to get away from the major tourist areas. Or are there some good areas on the West?
Yes, there are still islands with few visitors. Take a look at Koh Jum and Koh Lanta. There plenty others off the Krabi coast that don't get much attention. One thing that is guaranteed to get away from the crowds is to go island hopping. I did this from Railay Beach. The long tail boats go to uninhabited islands off Krabi. Dozens of them in the Andaman Sea.
