Australian Travel - Where to start??

Travel Forums Australia / New Zealand & The Pacific Australian Travel - Where to start??

Firstly, apologies on this being the subject of my first thread.

I am wanting/hoping to go to Australia the begining of next year, but have no idea of where to start? What type of Visa is needed? Am I too old for certain Visa's?

Any information would be greatly received and very helpful.

Many thanks.

What type fo visas are available (and if you even need a visa) will depend on a number of factors like:
- how long do you want to be in Australia?
- Do you intend to work in Australia?
- What nationality passport do you hold?
- How old are you?
- are you travelling alone or with family?

A good place to start would be the Australian Immigration website. This website has loads of general information on visas for Australia and even a hand tool, that will help you find the right visa.

Hi. Thanks for the info.

I'm turning 30 at the weekend and hold a UK passport. I travel intending to work when I arrive and I will be travelling alone.

I have checked out the link you supplied and it was a great help, but with me turning 30 in a few days, does this mean I have to apply before then?......as in these next 3 days??

No; you have until the day before you turn 31 to apply, so no rush yet.

Important: Applicants must have turned 18, but not turned 31, at the time of visa application.

I agree with the other posts here, check into the WHV's provided by the Australian Government and they lay it out quite clearly.

Again key things are your age and willingness to work.

I have a few friends that are currently working in Mildura (Victoria) picking fruit and people out in Gatton (QLD) which I have only heard wonderful things.

I think if your looking for a great place to start I would say either Brisbane or Sydney. Actually, I would do the

I have heard that National Geographic is airing a 6-part TV series based on Tourism Queensland's 'Best Job in the World'.

I think it is set to air sometime in August and might be a great way to help you make a decision of where to start!

All the best!

Many thanks for the great advice. Knowing that I have all that time to apply for the Visa has taken a bit of weight off my shoulders.

I haven't planned the trip yet but Sydney was going to be my first port of call then end up in Melbourne (eventually) to see my cousin who has now lived there for 3 years, and cannot say enough great things about the place.

Again, thanks for the great advice and information.
