I'm hoping to do a 3 day trek in northern Laos on my travels. Meeting, eating with and staying with the villagers while enjoying the scenery sounds really appealing.
The prices for a single traveller are quite high (USD$280), so ideally it looks like you would need to find a group of at least five others to get the best rate (USD$89 per person).
Does anyone have any advice on how easy it is to join/organise a group in the local area or is this something that should be organised quite a bit in advance.
I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences,
When you get to Luang Namtha there is a trekking office ( sorry I don't recall the exact name of the place), where you can sign up for treks. I was with 1 other person when we went- and we joined onto a group with about 6 or 7 others.
If I recall correctly there are several different trek groups, almost every day, and it is quite easy to just sign up to add on to a forming group. Usually no need to plan very much in advance if you are a bit flexible on the exact day you start the trek.
We went on a 3 day trek and had a great time!
One of the many highlights of my trip in Laos....
Brilliant, thanks a million CanadaGuy. Just the answer I was looking for!
(and it is a lot cheaper than the price you quoted, when you just book and plan it when you get there...)
Have a great time! I'm sure you will.
