I'm planning my first trip to Costa Rica in late March. I'm bringing my two children and I want to travel during their Easter break from school. I've heard that Easter week is a bad time to travel to Costa Rica because many Ticos are traveling as well.
This year Easter is Sunday is March 27th. Can someone tell if Easter Holiday is celebrated in Costa Rica during the week leading up to the 27th, or the week following?
Thanks very much,
Semana Santa is the week before Easter Sunday and throughout Central America it is a time for locals to travel and celebrate. It can be extremely interesting as you can see and join in the festivities. But you do have the disadvantage of finding cheaper places to stay as the locals will have booked them up.
Hope this helps,
Hello I have owned my B&B in Costa Rica for 14 years ...and Semana Santa can be a pleasure IF you have booked a place to stay(If you drink you have to be sure the B&B owners stock up alcohol for yu because NONE is served during Easter week...Central Valley is the best place to be because locals FLOCK to the beaches in the thousands and usually have boked up a year in advance ..Also the advantage of staying in Central Valley is that most parades and Village Fetes are plentiful ..I would advise staying OUTSIDE of ugly and alas dangerous San Jose..

Thanks, Andrew and Luucy, for the replies. I looked up infomation on Semana Santa and decided to change my travel dates until the week after.
Thanks for the tips,
