Hi All,

I’m after some ideas and input regarding destinations for my honeymoon hopefully around Jan 2011. My fiancée and I are seasoned travelers and recently returned from 18 months travel around the world where I popped the big question. Now we are back home and making all the wedding plans etc, we are not sure where to go on our honeymoon. If people wish to buy us a wedding present we have decided to ask for cash towards the honeymoon rather than a new bed-spread!
Based on a rough calculation we estimate to have around £1500 (maybe a bit more if we include xmas presents etc) so therefore can not book a flash holiday to the Bahamas or Mauritius (as nice as that would be!!).

Obviously when we were traveling we were living the backpacker lifestyle, but for our honeymoon wanted something a little nicer in terms of accommodation etc (not $6 huts surrounded by bucket drinking backpackers) Basically we are looking for paradise on a budget…..some beautiful quiet beaches with amazing sunsets, palm trees etc…you get the idea

The first idea that comes to my mind is getting a cheap flight to SE Asia (air Asia - £450 for example) and heading towards somewhere described like above possibly in Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia or even Thailand. Ideally we are looking for a place that isn’t going to be too hard to travel too as we are on our honeymoon and don’t fancy the usual hassle of Asia with boat, bus, tuk-tuk, walk etc but is a nice clean 4/5 star accommodation.

Has anyone ever been on their honeymoon to these areas, and if so can you share your experiences and provide any recommendations?
Any tips would be great.

Thanks in advance.

JD.

Something like this would be quite cool on Koh Lanta

Jade, I loved Koh Lanta for its peace and quiet, gentle sea and great food but for me it's just not picturesque enough for a honeymoon. If you're going to go to Thailand maybe you could go there and combine it with either Koh Phi Phi (very very picturesque but a bit touristy) or Krabi (very picturesque but a bit backpackery) or both? Then you would get the best of all worlds....

off my an extended 5 month honeymoon myself in about 8 weeks! can't wait. so have been looking high and low for a few nice romantic hotels here and there on for our trip (cheap places with a few lux ones thrown in for the honeymoon factor)

recently found this gorgeous resort on Expedia

Baan Panburi Village - http://www.baanpanburivillage.com/
Ko Phangan

cheapest one, Garden Hut, was £12, and most expensive was £43p night.

I booked it but then realised it would be rainy in November when we're there so cancelled it and we're off to the West coast instead (nice resort on Railay)

Southern Morocco.
Some of the world's finest beaches, mountains galore, cheap, lovely hotels all along the coast - oh and in January the weather will be just perfect for that late evening honeymoon beach walk.
Ooooh - I've come over all tingly.

I wanted to check out the loveliness of Tasmania but still find no time. If you want you can check it ahead I've heard a lot of people spending and lazying their days in tasmania for honeymoon. You would love the lagoon sorrounded by mountains and the mountain surrounded by the sea coast. Also heard about cradle mountain?

[ Edit: Sorry, no promos please. ]

What about Costa Rica, it is cheaper and so beautiful. You may have a honeymoon full of romance and adventure. Think about it!
