Hey me (24) and my mate (22) are moving to Melbourne from Glasgow in September as well. We booked into Base hostel in St Kilda for 15 nights from Sept 11th. Hopefully get jobs and a flat in that time.

Whats your plans, you going alone?

I have worked in Call centres and my mate has worked in bars so prob something along those lines. Never done anything like this b4 but from reading forums etc seems to be if you register with job agencies then you should find something.

what about you?

Na, ive done anything like this before, i did travel SEA for 6 weeks two summers ago but it was with an organised tour so not really the same.

This will be my first big adventure on me own but after reading posts on here and other websites im not really worried bout travelling alone

Yeah, ive worked in bars too so im hoping to pick up work that way, has your mate done an RSA yet or wait till ye get to Oz?

Are you guys planning on staying in Melbourne or travelling around a bit?

Plan is to do the RSA when out there. Yeh we plan on staying in Melbourne and traveling out from there. Prob work for a while, then do some traveling, then work a bit more and do a lot of traveling on the way home.

hi guys, sorry for taking ages to reply, im half way between being really excitied and being really scared, this is the first time im going to be traveling outside of europe and im going by myself. ive got a job in a bar for when i get there so thats one less thing to worry about! and they r going to put me on that course. im thinking about taking the second year visa as well, are u guys, or are u just goin to do the 1 year?

Hey all,

im doing a bit a whistlestop tour to be honest, 4 months in Oz, then 4 months in NZ, then 4 months around Asia so a year in total although i am already thinking about heading back to NZ in september 2011 for the rugby world cup if i have a cash spare.

Laurienne, how did you secure a job? Did you just apply on-line? Any tips for me?

Cheers,
Gary.

hi, just wondering how you managed to get a bar job before arriving in oz? Do you know someone out there already? Also is the company paying for your RSA?? I'm flying to Melbourne with two friends 1st September - soooooo excited :-) soph x

hey, i know people over there already, but i think u can get jobs if u apply over the internet, the gumtree is popular over there as well for advertising for jobs. i think the bar will pay for the course. so i would just wait and see what happens when u get across.

gary that sounds brilliant you will have a blast
