thanks, its also to meet people :)

What is the difference between stray and kiwiexperience?
Im finding it impossible to tell the difference, i'm looking at a trip which is basically the same route, so why is the kiwi one $400 more?

thanks

If its that much money, then you might want to advertise on here to see if others are going at the same time. If you got 3 or 4 people together, you could all chip in and buy a car or van, sell it at the end. Much more fun and you can go where you want. Places that a tour bus wouldn't.

When you get to the N.Island most tourist places are serviced by bus. You can book tickets online with Intercity or nakedbus. Intercity is more expensive, but more reliable and does less stops. Naked bus is popular for being very cheap. Downside with the buses is that you cant always get to where you want to go next. Sometimes you can choose between the two and get to where you want to go.

How hard is it to rent a car for approx 3 weeks in New Zealand for my GF and I? We would pick up in Auckland and return in Christchurch. Being from the US, we would need an automatic car

I did a short trip with Stray when in NZ, and it was actually pretty good, despite not really being my sort of thing. Kiwi Experience have a reputation for having a party atmosphere, Stray for being a bit more outdoorsy and adventurey, but I'm not sure there's much in it in practice.
