Hi,

There seems to be not may options to make this transit. Does any one know of an overnight bus or train that goes between the 2 directly with no stops????

We are considering an early morning bus at the moment which starts at 5:40 in Ljubljana and reaches Florence by 13:50... but it hurts to waste day time traveling!!!

thanks

U might try a bus to Koper, then hop a bus to Trieste, verrry close by. and then a local train in Italy to Florence.

May I suggest a coupla of different routes - yes it can be done as an overnighter. But without any stops? A 100% no-no.
Ljubljana - Villach - Florence. Change in Villach, which isn't a huge station - but a major hub junction for many routes.
Or you can also do Ljubljana - Venice - Florence. Change in Venice at either Santa Lucia or Mestre.
I've done Vienna - Budapest - Ljubljana before and that took about 6 hours. Adding on the Austria or Venice to Florence bit will be probably add another 2-3 hours or thereabouts, so I reckon you'll do the whole journey (including the one change), in about 7 or 8 hours.

I also noticed that Easyjet is starting a Ljub -> Milan Route soon, check it out. That would cut down on ur travel time and then a train from Milan to Florence should be easy enough that youlll be waiting inline at the Uffizi in NO TIME!

flyingbob - You really managed to do Vienna - Buda - Ljub in 6 hours!! WHAT! I had to double take at that! Im gna have to bahn.de that route and see for myself, I took a Buda to Ljub once and that took ages!

(returns after Bahn.de) Yeah ur right! wow! altho it didnt go thru Budapest.

There you go then. I wasn't 100% sure of the exact timing - but it seems I was about right.
Mind you - I've got it weong in the past.
I did Vienna - Athens a few years ago too. When I looked at the timings, it said 'Dep 14:00 - Arr 10:00.
What I failed to notice was the asterisk, which referred to '+ 1 day ! !'

Train trips are great out there, ain't they. Such a lot going on compared to boring expensive western (just sit down and do nothing) train journeys.
