Hey everyone :-) ... glad to see that I am not the only one doing it alone and nervous but stupidly excited at the same time !! Only 7 weeks till I leave, cant wait!! I am leaving UK on 15th Nov to hong kong for 2 nights and then on to Sydney. Planning to stay in OZ, travelling around and working in between, for around 8 months, then on to nz for a month, fiji for 2 weeks n asia/thailand for 2 months.... a year in total! I am 24years old and from Kent. Never travelled before..... booked my hostel for xmas and NY ages ago as I had been told that they get booked up soooo quickly, booked in the Wake Up sydney hostel from 20th Dec for 2 weeks and after that who knows....! Would love to meet ppl and hire out a camper van with them to travel some of the east coast.... I am sure we are all going to meet loads of new ppl!! Hope to see some of you guys n girls out there :-) x Lizzie x

Thanks for your reply Sander, that's really helpful.
I know a lot of places are booked up now over New Year but I didn't know if anyone had any reccommendations of places to stay in Sydney? Also if people have anything planned for New Years Eve yet or where's best to go. I really want to see the fireworks on the bridge and heard about beach parties after but I don't really know where's best to go.
Being the first time travelling and on my own, don't really know where to start and want to make sure I go to the right places and meet people! :( x

hi,
i visited Australia back in the 1980's. easy to get around and worked everywhere.
i did ski hire in Mt Buller, victorian alps. in sydney you sign up with agencies and find all sorts of work. the money i took out was all gone within 3 months but i earnt enough along the way and bought my ticket out at the end of it. ( i returned to work the ski season the following 2 seasons on a temporary working visa )
i flew in via Hong Kong and Bali. i flew out to Manila and back up to Hong Kong.

many travellers in australia. those travelling alone will find travel companions easily.
just be careful of the wildlife and the weather conditions! (snakes;spiders; sharks;crocodiles;jelly fish...etc and desert conditions; forest fires; flash floods; rip tides....etcetc.
my most dangerous moment in Aussie: hitchhiking at night in remote part of NSW and could hear Kangaroos approaching but could not see in front of my face. the Boxers can reach 8 feet tall!!! next car came along i jumped out in front of it and forced the driver to stop!!
good luck to all and enjoy it. great experiences to be had for the whole year and beyond.

Hey everyone
I'm Jojo, 27 years old,
I'm planing a working holiday visa as well, for 6/8 months around Australia before moving to New Zeeland, Tasmania, New Caledonia and Thailand.

I'm looking for one or several mates (up to 3), same kind of profile (or not) boys or girls to share expanses for a campervan
I don't have any final plan exept starting around 15 of january 2011 in Perth for couples of weeks, time to look for a cheap van to hit the road….
I don't know neither where to go first, we need to work on it together but basically I would like to go everywhere, mostly national parks for hiking and do extreme sport and farms for fruit picking to get some more money to keep going.
Plus some surf, concerts and festivals.

So if you are somehow interested to share this awesome adventure with a cool french guy just let me know.

cheer guys

Hi all,
I'm flying out to Melbourne on the 11th Dec from Heathrow (landing 12th 22:00)
i'm very excited but really nervous as i'm going over alone. Initially for just a few weeks but then back out there later next year. I've never done anything like this before but after what has been a crappy year i decided i needed to go and have a great time in the sun. if anybody is going at a similar time and wants to meet then i would be extremely happy to go out for a few beers and some good company. post me back you lovely people!
cheers peeps and happy travels

Stu:)
