Ever forgotten to take something with you when you travel?

This week, I forgot to pack the battery charger for my digital camera.

I'm into lists, and as pack something I cross it off the list!

I used to be into lists, but that was in the western world

Now my travel is much more spontaneous, and I don't prepare too much in advance. I just flew back from Xishuangbanna near the Myanmar / Laos border. I had to fly on 31st December 2004, because the Chinese travel agents did not yet know the following month's (January 2005) fares. You get this with a particularly large population ... 1.3 billion.

I must admit though I used to enjoy all the anticipation involved in pre-travel preparation, such as reading guidebooks and the like.

But on the other hand: with less pre-planning, I'm less prone to stress & frustration when things go wrong (e.g.flight delays, accommodation hassles, travel scams, communication breakdowns,& so on)

Oh yeah, lists can be too structured, and an extensive one may not be suitable for spontaneous travel.

But what I used to do when I did a lot of travel from work was to have a small bag that was always ready to go (toothpaste, hairbrush and the like) and then a small list of essentials (passport, tickets, mobile phone).

I get your drift, James

My travel is mostly for pleasure these days

I like it even better when someone else (such as my employer or girlfriend) does all the organising In the case of the former, they usually pay my travel, and entertainment expenses.

Usually, I take too many things with me so ... I often wish I had forgotten to take certain things

i normally end up bring too much with me but still manage to forget something basic , like a hairbrush..... then i go and buy loads of things abroad and end up looking for another bag to bring it all home in......

I'm a big list-maker, too. I'll start a few weeks before I leave, and end up with quite a few "eureka!" moments of remembering to put down some biggies. Like my camera!

The only thing I keep forgetting, though, is something for blisters. Nothing hurts when I leave! But that's been pretty easy and cheap to find, wherever I go.

The best suggestion I ever received was " ...Be sure to take some bandaids (elastoplast) ..."
