Well, are you trying to avoid Christmas or really get into it? Makes all the difference!

I would recommend a Nordic Christmas- Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark if you really want to enjoy it and get into the whole thing. Christmas is a BIG deal and celebrated very traditionally. There're also customs, foods etc which are unique to the area, plus snow, to which me equals good Christmas.

I've been lucky enough to celebrate Christmas on 5 different continents, and really enjoyed the relaxed Aussie Christmas I had. There seems to be a lot less stress in preparation and proceedings than in the US or Europe.

Huntsville, Ontario (my hometown and recent site of the G8 meeting) is beautiful in winter: really deep snow, lakes frozen solid, and many, many snowmobile trails (which are also great cross-country skiing trails). If you want a guaranteed 'white Christmas', that's the place to go.

Unfortunately, I haven't been home to Huntsville for Christmas in a decade. I've been celebrating Christmas in northern China- which is the last place you want to be at Christmas. It's freezing cold, but there's no snow (too dry). There are cheezy Santa displays everywhere, but nobody has a clue what Christmas is really about. No, don't come to China at Christmas!
