Actually, I ave met with many travelers (my part time job) who are traveling around Malaysia and some of them are pretty gutsy by visiting East Coast Malaysia. They take a risk BUT they stay longer at Perhentian. Usually most would do it for a week, but I know many even stay tere for 2-4 weeks. The monsoon is not that bad so you might want to check with the local forecast before booking. There are boats that head to Perhentian and there are a number of resorts that remain open with 50% lodging rates. Some dive centers are even in operation who play-by-ear. So, it's entirely up to you if you want to visit Perhentian.

Here is one of the resorts I stayed at that is closed from Early Nov till January during the Monsoon in -snip-. I stayed here in October, just before the monsoon. It did rain one day out of the three days there but it was no big issue. The only issue is the boat ride there wen it is raining. Can be a very rough one if you are not sea-compatible. I would recommend you try Sabah in East Malaysia as there is no monsoon there and if you have the added budget or time.

[ Edit: Sorry, no promos please. ]
