Hello all

I am planing a trip to Brazil. I may or may not be going with a friend.

I will have a bout 2 weeks time.

Of course I have some questions:

What would be a better time to go; during New Years or during Carnival?

Also where would be some of the best destinations to experience the local festivities considering I am more interested in experiencing the local culture than the more touristy and trendy spots?

From what I could find the major celebrations are in Rio, Salvador, Recife and Olinda.

I am open to traveling to a couple different cities or so.

I am a single male so, I wouldn't mind having some dates with the local women either.

Recommendations?

Hi.
Brazil is a great place and all i can do is envy you.

I would go in the carnival time. That is the time i was there. The carnival takes place not only in Rio. It is all over Brazil and is really amazing. You should be aware that prices boom up in the carnival time, but it is worth it. Loads of tourists and loads of fun.

Take a look at my blog i wrote when i was traveling in South America. My girlfriend and i were backpacking and it was amazing.

The address:

Something i would advise is to get a lonely planet book. It would help you with your travels. You will find a link to buying a book on my blog.

Good hostels you will be able to book at hostelworld. Another link you will find on my blog.

Enjoy your travels.

Maybe you could travel to Rio for obvious reasons;

Sugar Loaf Mountain
Nightlife
Beaches
Girls
Christ O Redeemer
Culture
Maracana Stadium

Sao Paulo and other towns can also be reached by buses (overnight buses too) for cheap.
