Hi there, looking for a cheap place to travel to meet my BF who is in OMAN

this looks like an option..is there enough to do here in 8 days? Are there places we can go to easily by train for the day?

Is it expensive?

If anybody out there has suggestions on other places to travel to in europe that may be economica for a short time, please let me know

i love this site..i came on 7 years ago when i was going to Australia to live!

Cheapest country in Europe (both East and West together) is Bulgaria.
And I may add, as I've had a private message asking if I work for the Bulgaria Tourist Board.. No I don't - never have and never will, but just love the people, the country, the culture and the prices.
There are budget flights from all over Europe to Sofia, Varna and Burgas.

Bulgaria? Hmm might be but id argue that Macedonia is cheaper. But Bulgaria is still very cheap. Serbia also might be cheaper than BG.

Budapest is NOT cheap.

No experience with Bulgaria, although I have to say it's on my European list.

Still, can't believe that it is cheaper than Albania or Georgia, those were real bargains. Had a bed for 2 dollars in Batumi and a 1 hour train trip for 50 cents in Albania!

I travel regularly to all the countries you mention here - and Bulgaria, overall is by far the cheapest of them all.
I agree totally Budapest is not cheap, but with a bit of advance homework - it's possible to do a night out and still have a nice bitta change from €20 left over.

Can't comment on Georgia. I've only spent a couple of nights in Tblisi and someone else was paying (so very cheap I suppose:)), but Albania - I have a lot of travel experience of. It is overall more expensive than Bulgaria.
Hotels in Bulgaria (outside the tourist areas of course) are a bucket load of cash cheaper than in Albania.
Incidentally, the train ride from Donchevo to Kardam is just under two hours and costs 1Lev 40stk (70 cents).
A close call, I agree.

Ok, that's it, I'll pack my stuff and go to Bulgaria, it's the cheaper than staying home

Its great isnt it. I lived there twice working as a Web Designer making UK pounds while living for cheap in Valiko Tarnova. I recommend it for a few months.
