Do you pick a destination based on its:
History
:( Culture
Activities
Amenities

uhm.... activities I like to go where I haven't been before. I don't understand folks who make yearly treks to Disneyworld for example. I like to do what the locals do...and try real hard to blend..... So if I can swim, run, ski, eat, drink and be happy.... I'll go there.....

I travel to meet the people and absorb culture, or to understand or get to know their history there. If I had to pick one of your categories, then it would be culture, for sure. Or to go shopping in cool places .

If I had to pick one of the options given, I would say culture.

Like tresham, I always like to go somewhere i haven't been.

preferably culture secondary would be what there is to see/do like hiking through a gorgeous state park and I guess that would qualify as activities

I'm a bit of a history buff myself
When travelling, I begin to understand things from an entirely different perspective. It gives me a chance to redefine my own cultural attitudes

Personally, I like to experience things that I can't do at home. I guess activities is my choice. If the activity I'am doing has cultural or historical flavor to it, so be it.

All of the above and food, and maybe some nice local drinks to go with the cuisine. :)
