If so, how have the recent protests affected the towns? I've heard of roadblocks in the area.

The UK FCO is advising against all but essential travel to the areas. Is their advice well founded? We are planning to go there at some point in October.

Thanks,

Simon

As a general comment, I'd say that FCO tends to be overly cautious regarding social unrest in south America. The protests, while a nuisance to travellers, are not directed against foreigners. You might get stuck (I was in 2004, when a 10 hour bus trip took 30 hours due to a road block), but that's about it.

Many Bolivian "issues" are usually fixed in a matter of a few weeks (Max) so regarding potosi, As far as I know things have alraedy cooled down! you can come with no fears (except for the tour company that you may choose in uyuni) none is recommendes and most of them are really scammy!
Good luck!
