Most tours from HaNoi will include a SaPa guide if needed. Check the tour prices and what is offered once in HAN. I would not book anything until you are in HAN. Prices are higher online than if you book at their tour office. Check travel shops like Sinh Cafe or Hanh Cafe for prices before telling your hotel you want to visit SaPa. Then you will know if they are offering a reasonable quote. Here is one online company that offers guides. It will give you an idea what it will cost and what is offered. Good luck with your planning.

Travel to Sapa, Lao Cai and Bac Ha is extremely easy to do without a guide. When I go I do it mostly by myself, and then join a group tour or trek out of Sapa. If you take a tour out of Hanoi to these areas, you will pay quite a bit more - no need. I do suggest you at least contact a Hanoi travel agent to get your train tickets.
