The Burmese government have turned down any international help. Probably not surprising, but what does surprise me is the comparatively low total number of deaths reported. Are they telling the truth do you think?

I was in Myanmar early 2004. Contrary to popular belief, the people are generally very happy and live quite comfortably. They are not particularly interested in politics. This especially applies to the young people.

Since independence, Myanmar adopted "The People's Creed". They don't want to be colonial servants of their former British or Japanese masters, or any others.

In simplest terms, Myanmar does not want any outside intereference. It could seem rather hypocritical if they changed their mind now.

The Myanmar PEOPLE'S DESIRE (as published on billboards & in tourist brochures):

Oppose those relying on external elements, acting as stooges, holding negative views.
Oppose those trying to jeopardize stability of the State and the progress of the nation.
Oppose foreign nations interfering in internal affairs of the State.
Crush all internal and external destructive elements as the common enemy.

FOUR SOCIAL OBJECTIVES:
;) Uplift of the morale and morality of the entire nation
;) Uplift of national prestige, integrity, and preservation & safeguarding of cultural heritage & national character
;) Uplift of dynamism of patriotic spirit
;) Uplift of health, fitness and education standards of the entire union.
;)
