Ok...a bud and I from the UK are flying over to Seattle, buying a car and driving all over the west coast for three months starting in June 05…WOO!... However I have a couple queries from all you road trippers out there:
1) What exactly would I need to do to legally buy and drive a car in the states for three months coming from the UK? As much detail as possible please!
2) Would I need a driving licence for a certain amount of time to drive in the states similar to the renting 1 year rule?
Much appreciated and any other advice for the trip would be great
Not exactly sure as I havent been here for a long time. But if you have a international driving permit/ or a valid UK driving licence, you should be good in most of the states. Some states are finicky about these things, so you better make sure about the dates you are planning to drive in.
Hi, myself and three mates are buying a van in the next couple of days and doing something similar so i'll keep you posted. you will need an address but we are lucky enough to have friends here who are gonna let us use theirs. your license will be fine i think but you should get an international permit. they're only 5 euro...
every state requires insurence, i'm not sure how it works internationally, but if you own a car, it has to be insured. just something to look into.
Hi we are also doing the same thing... with shorter time, only 5 weeks and 10000km, will be alot of driving, but isn't that what it is all about? :D I'd be happy to share the planning problems over here with the rest of you so it would make it easier for the all of us. When gathered some new info, I'll keep you posted. Our planning website http://users.tkk.hut.fi/~tlindber/roadtrip/
Get an I.D.P. before you go- you get your license translated into 5 - 10 different languages, and include English(duh), Spanish, and you could leave out French....
