Well the carnival is always a show, what it really matters is the background of the carnival http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkds4gzYxT4&feature=related .But if you are going to Brazil I suggest you going to another carnival, for example in Salvador or any other destination in the North. The one in Rio is more touristic, more show, more business.
Two weeks can be enough or not depending on the ryhtm you set and the way of travelling. I would try to see different landscapes so as to have a first panoram of the country. But for sure, no matter your itinerary you will enjoy our country

I think my post was misleading, we are there for 3 weeks, feb 21st through to march. But the last week will be at the rio carnival.. so only 2 weeks in Argentina. is this long enough for argentina?
