Too cool to be nice to travellers?

These dickheads should stay in their rooms and leave the bars to people, who knows that being an ass is only cool, if you are hot.

Cool Dutch traveller: hey man, whats your name?
Shitty Brit Expat: Names are irrelevant

Sounds familiar? Rude expats, who thinks politeness is as uncool as Japanese nerds.

I ussually just ignore this scene. But recently, someone had to whip their ASS. Who the hell, do they think they are?
I guess you know you have stayed long enough area, when you almost got in a fight with desperate expats.

I was hanging out with some travellers, and one of them left the bar, saying that were

dickheads in the area. Suddenly, I let the alcohol take over. I rush in and confronted the bullies.

Is it still cool to be rude?

Sounds like you've had a bad experience with ex pats, which is a shame. I've met some fantastic ex pats, especially some Brits in Tunisia, who really looked after me there when I needed it. I now make a point of getting in touch with them when I go out there, to try and meet up.

Also re:

I don't really think it's ever cool to be an ass.

The shitty Brit expat was probably a shitty little fucker when he was in the UK. Shitty people are shitty wherever they are.

There are 1000's of ex-pats in Eastern Europe. So many of them are regretting doing it too, mainly because they were running out of cash in the UK, sold up cheap, still made a mint, moved - and now they're close to skint in Eastern Europe (not good ! !).
A couple of years ago it was.... 'Ive got 500 channels on my 50" TV and the swimming pool is warm all year round'.
Now it's more.... 'Wanna buy a cheap place? The satellite's been switched off - and the pool's knackered'.
It's sad - but true, too many people move cos of a race issue and they see the alternative country as being cheaper than home. Two reasons 'Not' to move - I say.

I recognise this scenario, but usually these expats are tedious bores rather than openly unpleasant, no?

This is the most common line - 'Yeah, you like it here 'cause you're here on holiday, but when you live here you see what it's really like. You might not like it so much if you had been here as long as I have'. Yawn.

I still think more expats are nice and helpful than are obnoxious, like most other people.

I agree, becoming an ex pat or moving abroad etc make change your personality a little bit, you may become more outgoing or less but essentially if your an a**hole now you probably were back home too.....coating all ex pats with the same brush is similar to stereotyping people because of where they are from, what they look like, etc.... (no matter how hot you look if you are rude then you are a jerk !!)...

btw: i'm an expat according to the tax system here, i don't think i'm overly rude to travellers if anything i'm annoyingly nosey and want to know all about their trip
