Thumbnail video seems to be fixed indeed.

few more things in relation to message box:

  • It would be great that there is a function to delete all message with one click? Now I can only delete them one by one.
  • This is especially annoying regarding trash, where I have 1780 posts. Nice to see them again (couldn't do that before) but I would like to delete them all.
  • This trash box by the way, when opening, totally is messed up. It asks something in relation to the script or so.

Regarding travelhelp:

  • I signed up for the USA and I could just start the name of the article, it would automatically come up with related names. It did, but not the United States itself (wrote it down both USA and United States). The latter gave me all the regional (midwest, south etc.) and event he US Virgin Islands, but no option of choosing the United States itself. Not sure this has anything to do with redesign though, although it is a new option.

Cheers
Mike

My comments...

Good:
Speedy loading, the banner is very cool. Love the new map! (save issue below).

Meh:
Too white. I miss the left menu bar. Don't like the forums opening on the list of active threads.

Issues:

Didn't have time to read through all the posts, but here are a few things I noticed.

  • Date ordering in the inbox isn't working quite right - shows 2005, then 2004, then 2010, then 2009, etc...
  • Perhaps a symptom of having too many photos, but the map can't seem to map my photos. I click on MY PHOTOS, and it spends eternity "Searching for photos."
  • When I uploaded a photo, it doesn't take me to edit automatically, but just saves it. Is this expected behaviour? If so, is there a way to mark that you'd like to edit the photos you just uploaded during the upload process?
  • Went in to edit the location of the photo. Found it on the map using text search, but when I clicked update it hadn't actually updated the text search box yet, and so I got an error. Tried it again, and made sure I waited for the text box to update to the specific location before clicking update, and it worked fine. Just seems to be a lag between the map updating and the text box reflecting the new location.

Regarding the editing completely instead of template sections: all the featured articles have this problem.

Ok, found the problem here. It's to do with caching. It cached the page when a user who didn't have admin rights loaded the page. Then you came along and saw their cached version. Heh. So, this kind of brought me to make a change which I'd meant to do anyway and that is to enable editing of featured articles for anyone. Considering we'll need to feature articles a lot more to work together with the events, I think this is not a problem. You can always still lock the article if it's an issue. And the feature description is still only editable by guide editors with moderator status.

Also, I'll let the existing cache wear itself out, so the problem won't quite disappear immediately. It will happen within a day or alternatively as soon as a featured article has been edited (through the main edit link), those links should show again.

Oh, and two other points.

1. Don't worry too much about deleting your messages right now. I've got some code that is meant to run that will "archive" things for you and also delete any posts in your trash permanently that are older than x months old. So going through that yourself now could prove a massive waste of time :) This should also help the script errors you are getting in Internet Explorer - for some reason that browser can't hack a large number of messages. Once they are archived it should be much better.

2. We've got a search index of all the photos now. If anyone feels like it, editing the feature descriptions of all the currently featured articles to also include some photos (6 is good) would do wonders for the appearance of the guide's front page! Got a problem with forum indexing and member indexing at the moment, but those will be sorted later.

Ok, for those of you with trouble in the message center, please try again. I've just set up the archiving system and now you will see a few automatically added folders on the right with your messages from previous years in them

Can we still add a profile picture? I've tried clicking on the Profile Pic, uploading a photo, but when I check My Profile, the space is still empty.

This issue is now fixed; along with an issue that probably caused incorrect counts for the past few years :)

Another issue I have noticed. When I look at my photo gallery, photos on the first page are appearing twice. This doesn't seem to happen on the second page of photos, and it doesn't appear with the photo I uploaded today.

My Gallery

Oooh, on the plus side, I like the new linking!

Greg

P.S. Editted to add more detail to problem.

For the sake of being thorough, did you upload these back in July, possibly when the site was having one of its hiccups?

No, that can't be it - these photos have the same ID as each other. They *really* should not be showing!

I don't think there are actually duplicate photos in the DB. They don't show as dups in my photo management page, nor if I look at the same photos by tags (i.e. by the Shakespeare tag). It is only on the first page of the public photo gallery.
