hey

i arrive in syd on 13/10, cant wait. i have a yrs working visa and intend to both travel and work.
im going by myself, so anyone else arriving at the same time give me a shout, have booked wake up hostel for my 1st 2 weeks-ish!!

i have 3 options to choose from after i have found my feet, but havent a clue which one to go with, so please could anyone suggest which is best (and why) if poss!!!

1- stay 2 weeks in syd and then fly to cairns, travel back down the coast in 4 weeks (ish) and be back in syd for late nov/early december. then try and get somewhere more settled to stay and work!

2- again 2 weeks is syd to find my feet, instead of going to cairns, stay in syd and find somewhere to stay and work (may be easier doing this in oct rather than dec) until jan time and then fly to cairns and do my travelling then!

3- change my flight so i arrive in cairns and just make my way to syd by mid nov!

as i say any advise would be greatly appreciated :)

thanks in advance

ryan

Option 3 sounds the best to me, it's getting late in the season and northern Australia will be quite humid and stinger season from December through to February or March. Also this way while you're travelling if you find any decent jobs you can stop and work instead of having to find work when you get to Sydney. My 2nd choice would be option 1 for the same reasons as above. Either way you'll have a great time, enjoy.

If you really want to get yourself to Cairns I would do it right away. I have found when travelling that sometimes it is a tad difficult to get moving once you get settled. That is just me.

However, after recently seeing the National Geographic TV series about Queensland my opinion might be a bit bias. I saw that footage and would love to go straight to the Whitsundays.

If it was me, I would not even go to cairnes at all at that time. Australia is extremely hot in summer as it is, and cairnes in summer is unbarable. You really need to go there around July
