im travelling from ireland to oz via a 3 day stop off in bangkok, i have booked into the millenium hilton, thought i may as well stay somewhere nice while i have some money!!! basically my 1st day will be a ride off cos i will have just arrived and a bit jet-lagged.
so i only have 2 full days and realise i wont be able to see everything, has anyone any recommendations on how i should spend both days?
any advice would be great
If you arrive early enough for dinner, you might head just a little north of the Hilton, to Yok Yor Seafood. Great seafood at more local pricing.
thanks for this!
i was thinking more about excursions/day trips. I would like to do at least 1 a day for the two full days i am there
thanks again curt
The Hilton operates a ferry to the express boat piers. You can head over, hop on an orange flag express boat (13 baht, on board), and take it north, to Tha Chang, pier #9. Here you will find the Grand Palace, Emerald Buddha and Wat Pho, home to the famous "reclining" Buddha. These are the standard "must sees" of Bangkok.
Beware that this area is also "ground zero" for the most persistent touts and scammers in the city. It is best to ignore everyone, from the time you step off the boat, until you are inside the Palace grounds. Anyone approaching you, with friendly advice, will be working you.
After touring the Palace and the Emerald Buddha, head back outside, the work your way to Wat Pho, the next complex to the south.
From there, head to the river and catch the express boat back south. There is a pier near Wat Pho, Tha Tien, pier #8.
