Just to remind everyone from the UK, there will be a three minute silence tomorrow at 12 noon in memory of those that have lost their lives in the devastating tsunami in the indian ocean.
Also, if you haven't done already, please visit www.dec.org.uk to make a donation.
I just read on Sky News that this is being carried out over most of Europe....
even the busses in regent street in central london pulled over. was good to see, especially in a large shop like apple that i work in everyone respected the silence.
Seems to have been well observed everywhere I'm glad to say.
it happened here too, all the phone lines were cut during the time so it was a very silent building for a change, normally about 1300 people chatting ...
Actually got myself really wound up today..
The shower of shite college that I work at decided that they were going to observe the silence at 11.20 instead of 12.00 for 'practical' reasons.. though they stated that 'no bell would sound' in the memo that went round about half an hour before. Needless to say, few realised that it was 11.20 and so the silence wasn't observed properly... well at least not in our dept.
I went home early for my lunch and observed it on my own with News 24.
The apathy there has been so frustrating since we restarted on Tuesday... you wouldn't have thought anything had happened.
Had a debate with a cynical older teacher too about 'token gestures of respect' - his remark - and the disaster being 'regional' over international. The fact that we are in land locked Shropshire seemed to 'fuel' his argument in some perverse way (?!).
I'm so angry.
