as part of my class I have to solve some travel related problems through product design. This could be anything from things being to bulky to take or not suitable for travel (so need a travel version), something particular to your needs whilst travelling (e.g. you have a disability, to tall etc).
- Can you think of any products (e.g. travel irons, kettles, plug sockets, bag locks etc) that could be improved in some way or could be better designed for certain travel niche markets (e.g. different climates, long world trips, disabilities etc).
- Are there some problems which still haven't been solved through design and so designing a totally a new product for the travel market?
Thanks guys, really appreciate any help and would love to hear your responses.
Despite over 10 years of looking I have not yet found the perfect bag. For some reason or the other the luggage industry produces stuff that is not suitable to the needs of many regular TPers. Almost everybody here had to make some sort of compromise.
The area that could use some serious design work is wheeled bags with straps to carry them. I have yet to find one that was really well-designed.
My problems with the existing models:
- too heavy
- too large
- straps not comfortable
- carrying system not suitable for the task
Most of the time makers use wheeled bags as a basic design and then slap on a pair of straps as an afterthought. Well, IMO this is the wrong approach to the problem. Instead of using a wheeled suitcase as a base they should take a regular hiking backpack and think about how to attach wheels to it.
Hope this helps you.
How about travel clothing that
1)repels body fluids so it stays clean longer
2)has hidden pockets to secure money/passport
4)dries quickly when you do wash it
