I'm a 24yo Australian female heading to South America from mid Nov until end Apr. Just quit my job as a zookeeper to go see the world and do a bit of real conservation work.
I am going to Bolivia initially to do a spanish language course then plan to head up to Peru after that. I will be doing some conservation volunteer work in Peru for the start of 2011 but have no other set plans. I want to go to rest of peru, ecuador, the galapgos, columbia, suriname, if i can Cuba and of course brazil for carnival
I'm doing parts with a friend and parts on my own but my friend isn't really keen on going to Carnival and I dont really want to go on my own. I know I need to book way in advance to secure tickets and accomodation. My friends went 2010 and all chipped in on an appartment and that way they got somewhere nice and managed to keep the costs down. Not sure whether to enjoy the celebrations in Salvador or Rio. If anyone has any advice or wants to chat about attending carnival as a travel buddy I would be really eager to hear from you. Personally I am looking at heading into brazil a bit before the festival (early march) from the north west side up the amazon to Manaus.
I am also a lone female traveller planning on flying into colombia or peru on the 15th - but destination plans could change i'm looking to do volunteer and stay schemes. I think we should all exchange email addresses and maybe put our itinneries on the blog. What everyone else think ?? Charlotte xx
That's a great idea for everyone to post their itineraries and see where we each overlap.
2nd Jan Cuba
16th Jan Costa Rica
Then overland down the west coast to Patagonia then I fly home from Buenos Aires at the beginning of May. Would love to do some volunteering at some point too.
Sounds good Charlotte except my itinery isn't really set yet. The only thing I really want to organise is Carnival because the tickets and accommodation books out way in advance.
It's not really something I want to do alone so if anyone else was thinking of going to Rio or Salvador for Carnival and wants to go in a group and is ready to book now then please let me know (it will probably be cheaper this way too!).
The dates are 4th-12th of March, but the main celebrations I believe are over the weekend 5th and 6th so stay length is open. See the link below for more details but it's a SA must see and I had friends who went in 2010 and didn't book and couldnt find anywhere!
Im going to Carnival and I am ready to book now. I will be in Rio from the 27th Feb until around the 10th March. Let me know if your interested in staying in the same place. Im really keen to get it done asap so im not left stranded!!!
I am keen to book with you for carnival. I am looking at El Misti Hostel. To stay in either 6 or 12 bed female dorm from $75/nightAUD. You have to book an min of 7 nights. Check out the links below and let me know what you think. The actual el misti website is cheper!
Where are you from and what do you do? and how do we do this? Do we book together or separately?
Hey, my friend and I (24 year old females from London) are travelling in South America from the 25th of this month finishing in Rio for the Carnival in March! We are actually staying in the El Misti in Botafogo for Rio Carnival 3rd-10th of March - looked like a good choice to us! So maybe see you guys there if you end up staying ! M.
here in Peru the summer starts by the end of december and finishes by march, the hottest
is February in all the coast. although weather sometimes change, this year the summer started by the end of january.ah there is also a nice Carnival fest that starts the first days of February in the south of Peru, exactly in Puno, it is in the highland, this fest is called "
" La Candelaria " i think it is the biggest in all Peru. Puno is the border close to Bolivia.
any suggestions or advices about Lima - Peru just make it , i will be glad to help.
good luck with your itineraries
