I'm looking at flying into Sydney in the morning of the 29 Decemeber and wanting to stay there for New Year, just like everyone else, then travel up the east coast! :) I am travelling on my own, so a little bit nervous and excited at the same time. I've left it to the last minute though to book hostels and just wondered if you had any reccommendations to stay? Also what have people got planned for NYE? I've heard several things, but don't really know where's the best place to go and also meet people.
Would really appreciate any help x

Thanks - would be good to all meet at some point seeing as we're all solo! My sister stayed at Coogee Surfside and said it was small but clean and right on the ocean - anyone staying there?

anyone heard of wake up sydney either?

Yeah that woulf be good. It's nice to hear people that are travelling solo too.

I've heard of Wake up, it looks good, but I don't know if they had availaibility over new year. Do you know what you're going to do for new year?

ive got a couple of hostles lined up, im not sure if wakeup!still has any rooms left thinking of either the globe or funkhouse..for new years im doing the whole harbour bridge then bondi beach party thing. should be awseme!! just in the process of figuring out where im going to go after sydney, im not planning on staying there too long to begin with. what about you, what are your plans after new years, are you staying in sydney or moving to another place?

Cool, I'm still struggling with hostels, but as don't really know what to do for new year, not sure where I should look yet, not that I can be picky leaving it so late! That sounds really good, I really want to do the harbour bridge thing too but know there are so many places you can go to watch it. A beach party after would be cool, I just don't really know what to do to sort it or if you go with the flow when you're there. I went into STA travel the other day and the person I spoke to said he went to Bradley's Head, I think it was, part of Sydney Harbour National Park and saw all the fireworks from there and then there was a party going on too, which was free.

I'm going to book the Oz Experience and start moving up the East Coast after new year. Planning on doing the Whitsunday's and Frazer Island and there's lots of other things I want to do on the way, but only have a month! Do you have any ideas what you might do?

I would look into doing OZINTRO. I just completed a week with them and it was absoulety amazing! It's the best way to meet people and be set up to work and travel around OZ. The staff are so helpful and really care about there clients.
I'm already in Australia and looking at booking x-mas and new year accom now, lots of places are already full and its only the shitty ones left!
Ozintro run a x-mas eve party cruise and from what i have heard it is HUGE! If you dont do a week with them, go and see them in Coogee and get there help with travel/work advise and book on the party cruise

Also, Ozintro have a great deal on a fraser island/whitsunday package! I booked it and it is a really good price...includes pre and post hostel accom and fraser/whitsundays trips. I have open dated my booking and not going till prob Jan but would be keen on heaing who else is going.

Hi All,

I arrive in Sydney with 2 of my friends on 15th December for just over 2 weeks! We cannot wait! When everyone says that they are spending xmas on Bondi Beach - is that because there will be a party on the beach or are there restuarants there?

Sorry I am a bit clueless!

There's normally a beach party on Bondi at Christmas/New Year called Shore Thing, was very good last year although it pissed it down!

I stayed at D'Lux hostel in Kings Cross last year, very much a party hostel so if you want a quiet nights sleep then it wont be for you. One hostel I'd highly reccommend is "The Strand". Staff are very friendly, rooms/kitchen clean and always good for a party. Great place.

Wakeup is a decent hostel, good bar downstairs and very central. Coogee is a good distance from central sydney and would require a train/taxi to travel between the city or Bondi.

Any questions then fire away
