Hi Paz,

I have just booked my flights to Aus for a month and arrive in Sydney on the 29 Decmeber and hope to stay there for New Year and leave to travel the east coast from the 2 January. I am travelling on my own so really looking for a hostel where I can meet people easily. I have always wanted to go travelling and now been given the time off work so just booked it.

I have had a look at the hostels you recommended but these, like most I seem to have found, require a minimum number of days booking. Do you have any other recommendations of hostels in Sydney and that may allow you to book for 4 nights or is it that I will have to book the minimum nights requested to be able to have somehwere to stay. Unfortuantely leaving it so late, doesn't leave many options.

Also, would you recommend the Bondi beach party for New Year? I want to do the whole harbour bridge for new year's eve but then dont know where to go.

Sorry for all the questions, just not really in the know.

Thanks for your help.

Amelia

i see alot of us are planning on doing the whole harbour bridge and bondi beach party afterwords for new years but do you need tickets for it, as im guessing there will be quite alot of people from around the world and from aus that will be wanting to do the same thing. and if we do need tickets does anybody know where you get them from and how much they would cost roughly?

Hi

I have just read this forum thread and I am also going to be in Sydney from 28th december - 4th january but am travelling by myself and not entirely sure what to do on NYE. Sounds like Harbour bridge and/or Bondi beach is the place to be? Would be great if there is anyone else in Sydney by themselves who could possibly all get together so at least a crowd of people?

yeah i think we are all in the same boat, we all wanna do the whole harbour bridge and bondi beach party but no idea where to go lol, ive just got my ticket sorted, i will be in sydney from the 23rd dec and im up for meeting up, would be good to see what everybody's plans are for after new years and where everybody is planning on heading. im thinking about heading straight off to south aus in the new year then working my way back round up to the east coast, let me know if anybody else is planning the same thing or if anybody wants to meet up once we are in aus.

I've been looking at Surfside at Coogee and Bondi Beach to stay, just not sure which one or whether to stay there or in the city?

As with everyone else, that's the plans I want to do for NYE, just don't know where to go etc. Would love to meet with people when get there. Would be great to know people in the same position. xx

hey amelia, i looked at surfside and it doesnt seem like the best place to stay, even with the limated places left, the rooms look filthy, apparantly theres no real atmoshphere there and the staff arnt great, i know we're not looking for a luxery place or anything, but i need a place with a buzz and a good vibe...im still in two minds weather to be near bondi beach or to be closer to city centre. i had a couple of emails back from funkhouse and jolly swagman, prices are decent, place aint amazing but livable but they seem to have a good vibe. have you had any luck yet?

I was thinking more for the surfside and had spoke to them last night but waiting to hear back for definite if it's sorted. Bit worried now with that! I did look at lots of reviews on the place and they seemed good. Don't know if looked at to over nice reviews now?! does anyone know anything about surfside at bondi beach? So the other places u said looked at look good then?

well the other places dont look brilliant but they look livable, and better than what i saw and heard about surfside, i mean i dont really look too much into reviews cuz everyone will have different opinions on what they want but i saw some pics too, not ones that they've taken themselves but from other guests and well the place looks like crap! things rotting, bugs, bed bugs and n stuff..like i said i know we're not looking for luxery but that kinda really puts me off, im gonna wait till i hear back from all the ones i got in contact with yesterday and then just book one prolly sunday night. how many nights are you looking to book for, im booking for 12 nights starting from the 22nd dec, im starting to gear towards one more near city centre too, just so i can be closer to harbour bridge come new years eve. still dont know if you need tickets or anything for it.

Hi!
Just read all the posts, and I'm a solo traveler as well. I'm doing my internship in Auckland this year, but I really wanted to go to Sydney for NYE. So I'm gonna fly in at the 23rd of dec and leave at the 2nd of jan. As I just bought my ticket there wasn't a lot of choice left for hostels offcourse, like everone know. But I just booked at the jolly swagman, hopefully that will be okay. The prices weren't to bad. Anyone else going there?

oh and it would be great to meet up!
Sanne
