My advice is to avoid trying to cover too much ground, otherwise, you'll all your time traveling from A to B and dealing with logistics. Just getting from Paris to Florence is a haul, assuming you are going by train. Leave yourself space to just soak in the Italian lifestyle without having to rush off to the next site. On the other hand, if you like riding trains, that can be fun too, but I'd plan for a break somewhere in the middle. I've known quite a few people who have planned 2-week trips to Europe and come back exhausted.

If you think this will be your only trip to Italy, then yes it would be worth it to see Rome, Venice, and Florence. If you think you will be back again, you might want to consider focusing on a particular region, like Tuscany, to minimize travel time, and leaving either Rome or Venice for another trip. There are many amazing towns near Florence - Siena, San Gimignano. Volterra, just to name a few. It's fun to mix seeing the major sites with exploring smaller towns off the beaten track, eating with locals, and trying out your Italian. My best memories are all of the latter type of experiences. Learn as much Italian as you can before you go- not that you will need it to get by, but even a few mangled phrases can lead to fun conversations. Buon viaggio!

Thanks for replying geord. It will be my only trip to Italy at least for a few more years. I'd like to see as much as I can, so that when I do go back I can decide what regions I'd like to focus on.

faccio pratica il mio italiano :)

Hello!
Your programme seems very great!
Nice, Paris and Florence are awesome! And I guess the other city also are!
When I travelled in Nice and Florence I wasnt staying in a hotel or b&b in these city, so I can't help you.
But I know a few hotels in Paris.
