Gday, Currently in Banff snowboarding the local area and will be making my way to Calgary on Sun 9th Jan and staying for 2 nites before flying on tues to Montreal.
So what do fellow people suggest to do in Calgary? Where and what do the locals do? Unfortunately, there isn't a hockey game on with the Calgary Flames (home game) but before I leave Canada I want to see a game.
I've heard the Alberta beef is quite famous so where should I go for a steak meal? Since I'm a traveller, somewhere good and cheap will suffice.
Oh, suggestions on where to stay?
Unfortunately there isn't any NHL hockey on right now, so catching a Calgary Flames game, even if they were going to be home, would not be an option.
However, the Calgary Hitmen have a home game on the 9th against Swift Current. The Hitmen play in the WHL.
Can't help on the other items, as I have never been to Calgary. But I do know that Alberta beef is GOOD.
I live in Edmonton, 2.4 hours north of Calgary by car, but here are some things you can do in Calgary:
- go the the Canada Olympic Park and try bobsledding or luge, see
- the zoo is amazing, but be sure to go during the day as it gets dark quite early this time of year
- Calgary has a good Chinatown and downtown shopping area, but for funky shopping try the Kensington district, just north of downtown
- go up the Calgary Tower for a good view, 189 m high, see
