with us all planning our trips and all, has anybody thought about setting up bank acounts out there, and what banks are you thinking of? has anybody looked at possible jobs or are you just gonna look when your out there, has anybody even converted their cv's to aussie reseme's..not quite sure what the difference will be but ive heard we need to convert our cv's to how they have their reseme's?

I'm looking at going with Commonwealth Bank. A friend was with them when she was over there a couple of years ago and never had any problems. I think they have an office in London too - who can help setting up bank transfers before you leave.

Jobwise, I'm probably just going to leave it until I get out there, although I might register with a few agencies just before I leave to get the ball rolling. CVs seem to have a similar format to UK, there is some advice on the Careerone website

FWIW you might look at staying at Manly - there are a couple of hostels there. Getting into Sydney CBD is via Ferry across the harbour which I reckon is one of the best ways to see the harbour.

Also having stayed at Glenferrie Lodge at Kirribilli - I'd recommend it - although it wont be the cheapest option. You can pretty easily walk from there across the Harbour Bridge into the city and get the ferry home for something different. Also from there you'll be able to find a good vantage point for NYE on the harbour, but be prepared for a fair mass of people.

I'm flying in to Sydney on the 23rd of dec and will stay there till the 2nd of jan
Just booked my accomodation, I'm staying at the jolly swagman Lodge. If someone still trying to find accomodation, you can check out their site.

Hi,

Ah okay, I hadn't heard of the funkhouse before actually. Is it in Kings Cross as well?
I'm flying in from New Zealand, Auckland, 'cause I'm doing an internship here, but I'm from the Netherlands.
Where are you flying in from?
