Hmm... it seems like many of you prefer a tropical weather, like Malaysia.

Well, I can't comment much, as I have not experienced any winter before. :(
There's only one season here, hot (24-34degC) and humid (>70%) all year.
Are winters really that bad?

Cheers,
Hien

Hien,

Take our word for it. Winters are horrible. The start of your day is spent scraping ice off your car before heading off to work. If you ever head this way come in the summer!!!!!!!!!!!!

No Hien - winter is great. There's nothing like bundling up in your woolies and heading out into the snow.

I like the cold, and I like the bleakness of winter.
I like the protective feeling of snow.
I like going back to a roaring fire
I like the frost on the trees
I like the drifts of snow in the windowpanes
I like how silent everything is after a heavy snowfall
I like the way you can see all the little footprints of animals in the snow
I like the cold sunny mornings in winter
I like skiing

Just because it's cold outside doesn't mean there is snow and you can go skiing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Snow covered mountains though, now spending time amongst them make the cold more appealing

a tropical climate in the mountains? Or a hot climate close to the sea? (so it's not suffocating, because of the nice little wind....)???

what about: tropical climate, house on the beach and a mountain ridge for skying just behind you?

If you know about such place please let me know ;)

This is true.

But sometimes it is cold, it does snow, and you can go skiing.

i like hot weather but i also love cold winter nights, dressed in a big wooly jumper, hot chocolate or tea lying beside marshmallows, while warming up beside a big open fire, while the wind howls outside...

Most people think I am crazy when I say the weather here sucks but 11 months of heat is enough!!! Way too hot, way too long. I like 3 months of weather changing patterns. I like my winter snow, a cool spring, summer at the beach and fall breeze at night.

Now I have resign myself to go to NY during the winter hopefully to see snow and ice skate outdoors or see the leaves drop in Central Park around October. This way I can get the best of both worlds.

Am not a fan of Very Hot (especially humid as i always sweat like a pig, even in normal temperatures), but mid high 20's or a bit above are fine. Love really cold weather as well, and am quite happy down in -30odd, although after a few months like a change! I actually like rain as well, and honest to god do miss British style crappy rain on occassions

Worst for me is between about -2 and +10, or lots of wind (like this week. Holy Cow )

Sounds like you definitely wouldnt like the hot, humid and steaky Florida heat. Yuucckks!
