i have to agree with james. i hate to hear birds chirping after a long night of drinking. i try to sleep before that happens. but i would have to say sunset on a beach. anywhere.

Pigeons are what I hate to hear in the morning. Last night I flew back into Bangkok. Checked into the guesthouse around 2am. Maybe fell asleep an hour or two later. Woken up about 6am by pigeons on the roof and outside the window. Nothing like having head that feels like concrete. I looked outside and saw the pigeons ... remembering that they are quite tasty to eat.

Hi Wocca. I dont mean to get off the subject but where do you stay when you go to Bangkok? I am going over there in April and I have not lodging arrangements. I will be backpacking so I am still researching nice, clean and cheap places to stay for few nights (someplace safe to leave things behind). Can you give me some feeback?

There are heaps of guesthouses in the Khao San area. I try to stay behind the temple (wat) at the end of Khao San Road. Guesthouses are usually booked out, so if you arrive late at night take whatever you can then search around (say 10 - 11am) next day for somewhere better.
I just bought a Sawasdee Hotels card for 300 Baht (less than $US10). They have a webpage you may care to visit. It could be posssible to reserve a room in advance. They charge more than the usuall flea bit guesthouse, but at least you'd have somewhere to go initially. They charge about $US10 per night.
