Hey guys

I forgot about this site and post. I've actually got some plans booked with some people, however I am arriving in LA on July 3rd with no plans and not sure if I'll have any travellers with me by then. I'm planning on winging it in USA and going and doing whatever (I would like to explore California). My sister lives in Dallas, Texas and my flight home is from there sometime in September. All the details are on my blog www.robbo-gapyear.blogspot.com ...
Here are the dates:

My Travel Plans 2011:

5th February = London Heathrow ✈ Bangkok, Thailand & Laos & Vietnam
16th April = Bangkok ✈ Sydney, Australia
17th April = Sydney ✈ Cairns, Australia
18th April = Grey hound bus pass, hop on and off East Coast, Australia
28th May = Melbourne ✈ Christchurch, New Zealand - With Campervan to Auckland!
25th June = Auckland ✈ Fiji
3rd July = Fiji ✈ Los Angeles, USA
July + August = Winging it in USA, but a general idea (LA, California, Dallas, Texas, DC, Baltimore, NY)
~ September = Dallas, Texas ✈ London Heathrow, UK
Sept/Oct = Home & Newcastle University!

Let me know if your still up for anything! (atm I'm just gonna be doing that then my own thing when I get to LA with other travellers that I meet, unless I make other plans beforehand!)

God! Perfect planning! I wish I could do a trip like this, unfortunately I only finish my degree in July and I wouldn't have enough money to travel for so long and to so many places!! Can you tell me what is your budget for this trip?

Marta

i've got that pass too, with the 10 nights included thing. I'm going solo for the whole thing, might meet a friend in Fiji but thats all. I'm doing an organised tour of South East Asia for a month, thats in a group. But Oz, NZ will be completely solo. How did you organise going with a group of people you've never met before? Sounds cool. I'm booked in for 3 days at the Northern Greenhouse- had good reviews on here and on hostelworld so I just went for it.

Yes, definitely looking forward to diving in Cairns! I wanna go to the rainforest too!

sounds awesome, I was going to go solo with a one-way ticket to Thailand and wing it and just see what happens as I missed the year all my mates took their gap years. So I googled gap year, and clicked the first link (gapyear.) and on that site people were posting about travelling plans. So just like this post I did one their and surprisingly loads of people messaged me asking to travel. So I chose the group leaving the earliest and who were organised so it saved me from doing any work planning it!
You a experienced traveller, or you in the same situation as me (gap year before uni)

Hah thanks, I didn't do any of it haha, the group did it all for me, I just simply looked at it and joined them!

After buying all the insurance/flights/travel stuff/some accommodation etc (was booked through STA, came to £2.7k? rougly). I'm left with £3k spending money, but I have more money tied up in other accounts that I could use when I hit 0.00. I could also loan off my sister or parents as they've had done so from me! and pay them back when I get myself a job again, as they believe it's a one in a life time thing so should be done right! Plus I know people in almost all the countries so I can stay with them and save me some money at places.

Good luck getting something organised!

I'm also on my gap year, i'm 19. And yeah i'll be going to uni this september, so after 2 years of A levels and half a year of working hard at a job that i dont find very inspiring I am definitely looking forward to going away! I haven't been away from home on my own for more than 2 weeks... so its going to be interesting!

what happens if you don't like the group you are going with? (sorry had to ask!) can you just tail off and do your own thing?

yea, I just have flight tickets booked with them at the moment, so I could just go off and do my own thing and just be on the same flights, or even move my flights for £30.

But we've all talked on facebook etc, I can't see any obvious reason why we wouldn't get along so hopefully everything will go ok. There's a variety of people, and a range of ages so should be fine!
