I totally understand where you're coming from.
My scenario is exactly the same as yours, ex g/f's stories, own batchelor pad, same job, and partying. All becomes pretty mundane, and pretty quickly too.
I'm also hoping to find myself out in Australia, heading over in February 2011, you don't know that it'll change your appreciation of life for sure.
But mate, you don't try you'll never know, and it's a hell of a lot better than re-living the last year of your life. Which is quite likely to happen if you don't go.
Anyway, hope it all works out. You'll have a blinding time.
I think you've allready decided to go, eh bey?!
Before I travelled I hardly had anything to talk to people about, no life experience other than the little I had from my small corner of the world in Devon. Now I have travelled to America, Central America, Europe, Africa, Russia and Siberia, Asia, India and New Zealand. I now live in New Zealand. I never imagined that I would do all this when I was 20. I never imagined that I would leave Devon until I went on my first surfing trip to southern france and later on a trip around Sri Lanka and I was hooked!! Travelling definitely changed me, I used to be a quiet, parochial rural lad. Now Im a confident 30 year old man with a greater understanding of the world, people and myself.
Dont worry about meeting people. You will meet people everywhere, unfortunately the world is full of them! You will meet loads of likeminded people from around the world, there have been countless occasions when I have turned up at a new town, put my bag down, gone to buy a beer at the bar and just like that im sitting with a handful of people having a laugh and the next day may be a new day with new people or you could end up travelling for a while with the people from yesterday? Who knows? It doesn't matter, you're free to do what you want to do!.......Im ever so slightly jealous.
Go for it bey! You're only young once and then its gone. You only live once. Buy a one way ticket to the land of Oz and see where the wind takes you.
