Hello. I want to go to a laid-back beach area in Brazil: not too exploited, yet open-minded and somewhat international with a nice rhythm of life. I am in rehab for a bad back right now so some happy energy would be great to speed up the healing. Living in Sweden I am also looking for a place to compliment my sweet but oh-so-serious country. So, does anybody know a beautiful small place to recommend, good for a single woman late 30's? I am curious about Bahia and Natal but anyplace not too exploited and not too hard to reach is of interest.
I would recommend Buzios, which is approx. 2 hour drive from Rio de Janeiro. Originally a fishing village, it is now a beach paradise with sophisticated restaurants dotting the cobblestoned village streets. You will find an international crowd there. It was Bridget Bardot who put it on the map, when she lived there in the sixties with her Brazilian boyfriend.
A nice place to stay is Pousada Casas Brancas, walking distance from the village.
Or Collona Park, but is about a 10 minute drive from the village.
Feel free to email if you need more info.
Very Best Regards - Jill

around Natal is getting more and more built up these days,
I spent a wonderful two weeks in Jerriocoacoara north Brazil (It's very difficult to leave!) There ar plenty of internationals and also pletnty of young Brazillians around, it's a lovely place to relax!
There are a few others if you have any more queries or want to know more, click on my "mim" handle and send a message to my centre, I'm a travel elper for Brazil and would be glad to answer any questions!
Not far from Rio, there is also a beautiful island called Ilha Grande with good offer of economic accommodation and nice beaches. Going down to Paraty you will find also beautiful scenery and rich history combined.
if you prefer bahia. spend some days in salvador then go on the morro de sao paulo which is an island near. it might be a bit touristy there, but u can move on to other islands from there which i very recommend.
feel free to ask more,
