I think that Aer Lingus have a poor standard of customer service. We had a lot of trouble in April 2010 because of Volcanic Ash but that was nothing compared to trying to get our compsation from Aer Lingus. Six months later and nothing = they refuse to contact me about this. I don't think I could fly Aer Lingus again.... I do not trust them.
I´ve used them a couple of times and they´ve been ok. Keep talking to them. It might be worth your while checking what the European Union said about compensation as they forced the airport closures on account of the volcanis ash.
I fly them all the time to get home and have found them okay, i would choose them over Ryanair any day but I agree with the previous poster that you should check the compensation regulations as many people are in the same situation and the airlines were forced not to fly which accounted in large losses and debts to them as well as the customers...... i wouldn't give up on their customer service just yet...
