I am planning 2 months in asia with my fiance in february. Our route looks something like this...
23/02 arrive in Bangkok
5 days in Bangkok, travel to Chaing Mai, 5 days in Chiang Mai doing Elephant & Hill trek, travel to Laos border crossing. (we were going to go via Phitsanulok/Kohn Kaen/Udon Thani but would like advice on the best way to go here)
3 days in Viang Chan, 2 days in Vang Vieng to go tubing, 2 free days here to see something else?, then travel across border to Halong Bay in Vietnam
2 days in Halong Bay, 2 free days to travel/see sights on way to Ho Chi Minh, 2 days in Ho Chi Minh, travel to Kampong Saom in Cambodia
2 days in Kampong Saom, 3 days in Phm Penh, 5 days in Siem Reap to see Angkor Wat, travel to border where we stay 3 days with family friend
1 day in Bangkok, 7 days in Phuket where we lounge on the beach and see Phi Phi islands, 1 day in Bangkok
Fly home from Bangkok.
This is pretty rough and allows lots of leeway, but we just aren't sure if we are going places where theres not much to see and whether we are missing some really great areas out!
I've had a look and the trains seem pretty good from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and Phuket, just not sure which routes to take the rest of the way...
Thanks for any advice.
