So I'm off to Canberra for two days, everyone's telling me not to go, but I want to for two reasons, I really want to see the parliament and museums, and also I would feel very ignorant if I stayed in a country for nine months and didn't see it's capital.
Can anyone tell me about night life, is there anything to be had apart form a beer in a cafe? Also is anyone informed on the whole seperate government issue? Somebody told me that both euthenasia and cannabis are legalised in ACT? is that true?? What the......
Canberra is probably worth an overnight trip - I just can't remember why.....oh yeah, it's the only place in Australia that has legal "adult book shops" and shops that sell firecrackers. Not sure about euthenasia or cannabis, but it may be true as most of the politicians seem to on something.
Apart from that, it's a fairly interesting town with bits and pieces to see. The drive from Sydney is 3 hours and is mostly 4 lane highway so you can set the cruise control and go to sleep.
i stayed there for a night with the oz experience and the guy (peanut was his name)said that the centre of the city empties a night(apart from the tourists)into five surrounding suburbs. we stayed in one (sorry i cant remember the name) and it had a good night life along a strip of bars, one of the bars was irish and it was called something like filthy magees. it was a friday night so im not sure what its like the rest of the week.
but it seems to me that you would be better off if you stayed outside of the centre, its only about 5-10 minutes from the parliament house.
sorry i cant remember the name of the place.
