Travel Forums Europe Yet another "how much" question

I know this is probably the most asked question on this forum, but I'm going backpacking for a month staying in Prag, Budapest, somewhere in Greece, Italy and Paris. I was thinking, is 25 Euros enough per day incl. accomodation?

OOooops.. it seems a little bit tight. Some hostals cost around 20€... And you will need more than 5 euros to survive every day..
If I were you:

Hostal: 25€ (usually they offer breakfast and internet service) But the locker, blankets, washine machine are charged separately.
Food: 30€
Transportation: 4€
Museums, attractions.. etc: 25€

per day...

But!! it depends on the type of trip you are planning to do....

for Prague and Greece you would be okay but maybe budget €25 - 30 per day,Northern Italy can be quite expensive compared to the South ( approx 30-45 per day), Paris and Budapest - these will be the most expensive......

if possible stay in dorms, take hostels that offer breakfast, eat in small coffee shops / local family run restaurants or pubs but try to eat outside the main tourist areas !!

We budgeted 50 Euros per day....that included everything....accom, food, shopping (tee hee ), water while site-seeing, train reservations, etc. Most of the time we didn't spend all of it, but things add up really quickly.

50 euro's is a safe figure per day to budget for, although in the East you can get by on considerably less, especially if your happy to buy out of supermarkets and cook yourselves, and are happy in Dorms etc. Also with 50 a day, you should have enough to spend on the occassional blowout/special treat (i.e. a fancy restaurant in Paris, a hot air baloon ride or some swanky clothes in Milan) which you would'nt otherwise manage.

Having said that, only Paris and northern Italy (where accom can be hard to find, especially cheap) are expensive places on your list, so you should easily be able to cope on 40 a day budget, and on some days get away with a fair chunk less.

A friend of mine did some backpacking in Austria and north east Italy and found the hostels cost from €13/night. But obviously dont expect the Ritz
