I am 18 year old college leaver and it has always been my dream to take a year out and go travelling around the world with a few friends, I am the keen one out of the group and I am starting to plan the journey now. Therefore I ask for tips and any advice, feedback, recommendations you are able to give me. The plan is to start in Europe flying out to portugal and working our way through spain (this is just a rough plan more countries will be visited this main outline), into france, germany, italy, belgium,Holland then into scandinavia then that route will lead us onto eastern europe for places like belarus, latvia, russia, hungary and poland. From eastern europe we wish to move onto asia, china, japan, malaysia, onto australia and new zealand. Then we aim to get a flight to uruaguay and work our way up south america into north america, through north america and through canada which will be the end of our time, we wish to finish montreal.

So please advice is welcome and much needed if you see any problems in my plan, please feel free to point it out.. as the whole purpose of the trip is for enjoyment. Also seasonality, when would be the best time to visit places at times of the year?.. I have already been told that Prague is absolutely amazing of a winter with the snow and the freezing temperatures, and also Germany especially the south.

So please get commenting

Paul :)

your trip sounds awesome, but maybe a bit too optimistic? it looks like your trying to cover a lot of ground and for even a year it seems like to go through all them places around the world properly your going to be doing a lot of travelling or not seeing too much of each country. how much u planning on taking with you for the year?

way way way way way way way to many countries!!!!! You will ruin your travelling by not spending quality time in each of the places you visit!!
Scale it down bigtime!

for the year I was thinking on about £10,000 minimum to about £13,000.

Point taken.. I may just stick to Europe seeing as its my first RTW... and then save up and go and see the other side of the continent another time.

Any recommendations on were to go at different times in the winter/summer/spring?

Im guessing your coming from the US? I think you could prob fit in europe and a part of asia in a year fully (e.g SE Asia), an idea maybe like Asia during winter months in europe and europe during the summer half of the year as most of europe tends to be quite cold over the winter months.

dlovallo1 im from Liverpool, UK why would you think I was from USA? North America is the place that I wish to avoid out of all the countries...

I wish to spend a winter in eastern europe and perhaps a spring in SE Asia, in Australia our summer is there winter so that even's itself out and leave the America's for the autumn and we wish to be back returning to the UK just short of Christmas.
